Education
My philosophy of teaching students is simple. I wish to share with students my sense of wonderment and passion with music. I want them to feel the rush of excitement when the final chorus of Mahler’s Symphony No. 2 begins. I wish to share with them the brilliance of J. S. Bach, the elegance of Haydn, the simplicity of Copland, and the raw nationalism of Bartok.
It is important to recognize that students come to college with varied backgrounds, abilities and levels of prior knowledge. Developing critical thinking skills, conveying the essential principals, tools and language of music, and giving the students a sense of excitement and appreciation for its relevance regardless of their career choices are my major goals when teaching.
